About

Golden Gaels Photos is version 2.0 of Jeff Chan's Queen's sports photo website. The original site was first published at www.pbase.com/goldengaelsphotos in 2001, and that version 1.0 site had received 15.8 million page visits through August 10, 2015.

Jeff Chan began shooting Queen's Football — whose championship history includes the 1968, 1978, 1992, and 2009 Vanier Cup titles and the 1922, 1923, and 1924 Grey Cup titles — in 2001. Coverage of additional Queen's teams was added in the seasons that followed.

He was Chairman of the Vanier Cup Organizing Committee from 1978 to 2000, and in 2017 co-founded and chaired the inaugural Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship, held November 16–19 at the University of Guelph.

Jeff Chan's passion for capturing Queen's University athletics began with the Golden Gaels football program, a team with a storied championship tradition that includes multiple Vanier Cup and Grey Cup titles. What started as a focus on football soon expanded to cover soccer, hockey, basketball, rugby, volleyball, and track, creating a comprehensive visual archive of Queen's sports. The site has grown steadily since its early days, drawing millions of visits from fans, alumni, and athletes who appreciate the detailed documentation of games, championship moments, and the spirit of Canadian university athletics. Each photograph reflects a commitment to preserving the energy and emotion of collegiate competition.

Beyond the action on the field, Golden Gaels Photos serves as a historical record of the athletes, teams, and traditions that define Queen's sports culture. The gallery includes not only game-day highlights but also the broader community that supports Golden Gaels athletics, from the bands and fans to the alumni networks and university committees that sustain the program. Jeff Chan's work has been recognized for its role in promoting Canadian Interuniversity Sport and the growth of university athletics across the country. Whether documenting a championship run or a regular-season matchup, the collection offers a lasting tribute to the dedication of student-athletes.
